Chuck Close is an American painter who focuses on the art of portraiture. Close, as you can probably see, has an incredible eye for detail and paints with extreme precision in all his work. In 1988, Close unfortunately had a seizure leaving him paralysed from the neck down. But this did not deter him from working. Shortly after his accident Close began to work again, completely changing his style through the use of painting in stages. Before painting, Close would make a grid on the canvas and paint each section one by one using a very low resolution image and block colour. The outcome of this still produced recognisable and, to an extent, a more visually interesting portrait.
