Recently visited the Museum of Childhood on Cambridge Heath Road in London and was completely captivated by this exhibition. It’s called ‘ The Value of the Paw’ and depicts a row of monkeys civilly having a little tea party. The composition of the piece is simply outstanding and i was mesmerised by what was going on. The work collaborates a variety of other work that is shown in the same exhibition and subtly presents them in the piece. ENJOy…
There was however a slightly creepy air to this installation. The monkeys did looks very life like and i was convinced that at some point they would spring out and roam around (I was secretly hoping they would come alive and continue with their tea party). This didn’t happen. I have to say that the credit for this piece is this guy…
He was the reason that i managed to convince myself that this was a live exhibition. This guy. Staring at me, innocently sitting and waiting to jump on my face and rip out all my hair! It was a very weird feeling; being watched by a toy and being so entranced by it that you just look right back at it. In a VERY weird way it was like being a child again. You know when you were convinced that you’re toys were real. Gave them personalities and stories and they always ALWAYS slept in the same place. EVERY night. As if they knew and would seek some sort of vengeance for ‘misplacing’ them. Toys are scary.
